In Tunisia, radio remains a first choice for following the news. In taxis, cafés and kitchens, lunchtime bulletins and morning shows set the pace of public debate.

Stations do not all cover news in the same way. Some take a broad approach, while others specialize. This guide will help you choose.

The general-interest stations setting the tone

Mosaïque FM has been a major presence since 2003: its bulletins and talk shows often shape the day’s agenda, and its morning show remains among the country’s most prominent. The newer IFM has established a freer tone that appeals to young professionals without abandoning regular news coverage.

Alternating between the two gives a useful view of Tunisian public debate: the first as an established reference, the second as a counterpoint.

Express FM, the business reference

Express FM has built its authority in business coverage one programme at a time. Interviews with business leaders, analysis of finance laws and market coverage make it the station to choose when you want to understand a figure rather than simply comment on it.

Public radio and reference news

Radio Nationale remains the official Arabic-language news voice, with comprehensive bulletins and nationwide coverage. RTCI plays a distinct role: its French-language bulletins make it a natural entry point for French-speaking listeners and the diaspora.

What about regional news?

Tunisian news is not produced in Tunis alone. Jawhara FM covers the Sahel with its own newsroom, Diwan FM does the same in Sfax, and the public regional radio network completes the map from Le Kef to Tataouine.

For news about a particular place, start with its regional station: local stories often break there first.

Our listening suggestion

Start the morning with a general-interest show for the day’s agenda. At lunchtime, use a Radio Nationale or Express FM bulletin to verify and explore the main stories. In the evening, turn to your regional station for the issues closest to you. With these three appointments, you will stay well informed.
